John Wakeham, Baron Wakeham PC, DL(born 22 June 1932) is a British businessman and Conservative Party politician. Between 1998 and 2012, he was Chancellor of Brunel University, and since then has been its Chancellor Emeritus.

Business LifeBefore entering Parliament Wakeham qualified as a Chartered Accountant with varied business interests that included timber, motor vehicles and agricultural machinery. He also owned a number of race horses.

Private Life Wakeham has been married twice; firstly to Anne Roberta Bailey (m. 1965-1984, 2 children) and secondly to Alison Bridget Ward (m. 1985, 1 child). His first wife was a victim of the Provisional IRA bomb which exploded at the Grand Hotel Brighton on 12th October 1984. Wakeham himself was severely injured having fallen four floors and laying trapped for over seven hours.

Later Political Life On leaving the House of Commons Wakeham became an active member of the House of Lords. His hobbies and interests include farming, sailing, horse racing and reading (The International Who's Who, 1984).
