She is the Vice President in People's Justice Party (PKR). She has served as State Chairperson of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition of Sabah since August 2017, which is aligned with WARISAN as well as State Chairperson of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH coalition, of Sabah.

She is the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Beaufort constituency in Sabah, presently representing the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU) since 2019. She had earlier left United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) party in the opposition Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition to be an Independent politician in 2018. She is also the former State Minister for Community Development and Consumer Affairs.

    Datuk Chua Soon Bui (simplified Chinese: 蔡顺梅; traditional Chinese: 蔡順梅; pinyin: Cài Shùnméi; born 1 February 1955) was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Tawau constituency in Sabah from 2008 to 2013. She sat in Parliament as a member of the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), which commenced the 2008–13 Parliament in the Barisan Nasional coalition but joined the crossbenches in 2008. Recontesting her seat in the 2013 election, she finished in third place with 633 votes.
