Academic journals of Japan

The Journal of Plant Research is a bimonthly peer-reviewed scientific journal of botany published on behalf of the Botanical Society of Japan [ja] by Springer Science+Business Media. Its predecessor, The Botanical Magazine (植物學雜誌, Shokubutsugaku zasshi) of Tokyo, first published in 1887, ran until volume 105 in 1992; during this period, over 4,900 plant names were first published in its pages. The journal obtained its current name in 1995.

Journal of Health Science was a Japanese peer-reviewed medical journal of health science. It was originally established as Eisei Kagaku in 1956 (itself a continuation of the earlier Kōshū Eisei Nenpō), but renamed itself to its final title in 1999. Publication continued until 2011. In 2012, the society re-organized its journals, and most material started to be published in the sister publication Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, with some being published in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin.

Applied Physics Express or APEX is a scientific journal publishing letters, with usually no more than three pages per (concise) article. The main purpose is to rapidly publish original, timely, and novel research papers in applied physics. As part of its aim, the journal intends for papers to be novel research that has a strong impact on relevant fields and society. It is notable that the journal considers satisfaction of this criterion as showing the paper merits priority handling in the review and publication processes. In keeping with this aim, its issues are published online on a weekly basis. The print version is published monthly.

Shigaku zasshi (史学雑誌, literally, Journal of Historical Science) is the oldest academic journal of history in Japan. It was established in 1889 as the official publication of the Historical Society of Japan (shigakkai) in Tokyo. It is published in Japanese with English abstracts.

The Journal of Japanese Botany (植物研究雑誌, Shokubutsu kenkyū zasshi) is a scientific journal of plant taxonomy and botany. The journal was founded in April 1916 by Makino Tomitarō, who continued as editor until 1933. Makino was succeeded as chief editor by Asahina Yasuhiko (1933–1975), Hara Hiroshi (1975–1987), Shibata Shōji [ja] (1987–2006), and Ōhashi Hiroyoshi (2006–). According to the International Plant Names Index, over 5,500 plant names have been first published in the journal.

Acta Phytotaxonomica et Geobotanica (植物分類・地理, Shokubutsu bunrui・chiri) (APG) is a scientific journal of plant taxonomy and botany published by the Japanese Society for Plant Systematics (日本植物分類学会) (formerly by the Societas Phytogeographica of Kyoto). The journal was established along with the Societas Phytogeographica in 1932 by Gen-ichi Koidzumi. According to the International Plant Names Index, over 3,300 plant names have been first published in the journal.
