Because Dee Snider was arrested in Amarillo, Texas for obscenity, their music became the generic term for sick metal.

Twisted Sister became the first metal band to release a Christmas album.

Twisted Sister challenged Hanoi Rocks and Manowar to a street fight back in '83 while in England. Twisted Sister showed up the next day in jeans and leather with a growing crowd of English SMFs cheering them on, but neither of the other groups showed up.

Twisted Sister's song 'We're Not Gonna Take It' was on the list of the filthy fifteen, fifteen songs that were considered too violent, profane, sexually explicit, occult or alcohol/drug related.

Twisted Sister has been described both as a metal band and a glam rock band. Dee Snider has said that Twisted Sister consider themselves a metal band, "but the first glam metal band."

Some members of Twisted Sister have admitted to wearing wigs for performances, in order to live up to their former head banging glory and put on a good show for their fans.

In 2006 Twisted Sister reunited to release A Twisted Christmas, which is a collection of unique takes on classic Christmas carols and standards. The band introduced each carol with a classic rock song such as "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath or one of the many Judas Priest hits.
