This will be Michael Peña's second live action film based on an animated cartoon after Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019).


To counter one of the many criticisms lobbed at their previous theatrical work, the titular characters of the film will not speak or sing.

Not counting the shorts, this is the second Tom and Jerry movie to be theatrical, after Tom and Jerry: The Movie (1992), as well as the first one to be live-action and animated.


The film have a stylized CGI animation, like The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run (2020).


Peter Dinklage were considered for the role of Terrance before Michael Peña got the role. This would have been Peter's first time staring in a live action animated film since Underdog (2007).


The film is being released in 2020 which marks the 80th anniversary of Tom and Jerry.
