stars  Chris Rock initially contacted the studio, who put him in touch with producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules. They, in turn, contacted writer Josh Stolberg and told him to make it happen. He and co-writer Pete Goldfinger worked with Rock starting from his original setup; he wanted to see what would happen if he/his character woke up handcuffed to a pipe and was asked to cut off his own hand to escape.
