Zedd is asked how they met L.A.'s 97.1 AMP radio

"It was about as random as it gets," the DJ, 25, recalled. "I had the day off and I decided to go buy stuff for my house because I just moved. So I have an empty house, and I had to pee. I had my engineer with me, so I was like, ‘I hope they have a bathroom.’ He was like, ‘Just go to the studio over there,’ which was across the street from my studio. He’s like, ‘They have a bathroom, just go and use that.'"

"So I walk in, and John, the head of our label, who had just signed Selena, was there. He was like, ‘Have you ever met Selena?" Zedd said. "So he introduced me to her, and was like, ‘Hey, she’s cool, maybe we should make a song together.’ And then like a week later, we start working on a song. All because I had to pee."

Selena Gomez is officially on the market once again! It looks like the 22-year-old and her rumored boyfriend, Zedd, have friendzoned their relatively new relationship.

Though the two seemed to be Hollywood's newest "It Couple," it looks like the former Disney darling and the DJ have split due to different interests...

Even though they never confirmed their couple-y rendezvous in the first place!

DJ and all-around troublemaker Diplo suggested several weeks ago that Selena Gomez‘s relationship with Zedd was just a publicity stunt to promote their song “I Want You To Know.”

“I just think that he came from such a cool place, and now he’s been pegged as a money-maker for a major label to do EDM, which to me isn’t even a genre,” he explained of his beef with Zedd. “But they’ve pegged him for that, they’ve marketed him, even the fake relationship with Selena Gomez, all the things to sell records took away from the music. He’s an amazing producer and good songwriter.”

Now, Gomez has addressed Diplo’s statement, and it appears it couldn’t be further from the truth.

While Selena and Zedd are no longer a couple, the 22-year-old pop superstar says that they were definitely more than friends, and that Diplo was kidding when he made that comment.

“He said that was a joke,” Gomez said during a recent radio appearance in New Zealand. “I talked to him. He said it was a joke. It’s very interesting that Diplo would think he knew about my personal life, but he doesn’t.”

“I adore Anton a lot and I definitely had a thing with him, which was nice,” she added.

After referring to Zedd by his given name, the topic of Taylor Swift‘s boyfriend Calvin Harris also came up, and it appears that Gomez also calls him something other than his stage name!

“I don’t know, maybe!” she said when asked if Zedd would be embarrassed by her calling him Anton. “But I made this a deal. I said it to Calvin Harris too. I was like, ‘Look, you guys have two names. It really is frustrating. I need to know which name I should call you because I don’t know what is what.’ So I speak with the real names. Adam and Anton.”
