Sandy Linter is a legendary makeup artist in New York City. Linter has spent the past forty years working with celebrities and supermodels. She is recognized throughout the beauty community for her age-defying techniques, which have been known to take off more years than cosmetic surgery. A frequent contributor to the country’s leading fashion and beauty magazines, Linter’s work has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. One of a few editorials of her time. She worked with luxury cosmetic brands such as Estée Lauder and Lancôme. In 2008, she was chosen by Lancôme to be its Beauty at Every Age campaign expert. She's also an author of two noticeable makeup books, The Makeup Wakeup and Disco Beauty. In 2009, Sandy became the recipient of an Elle Magazine Genius Award, Elle's beauty version of lifetime achievement awards. Today she's working at Rita Hazan Salon in NYC, as well as a freelance makeup artist. She lives in Manhattan.

Self-taught at the beginning. Started to show interest in makeup in her teen years, doing her mother makeup, then for collegues. Worked as a secretary for an architectural design firm, but didn't like the job. In 1969, applied to Wilfred Beauty Academy on Broadway. Learnt makeup from Mark Traynor there. Finished in 1970. In 1969, started a job in a cosmetics counter at Bloomingdale's. In 1973, started to work at the Mr. Kenneth's salon. She once did makeup for Jackie Onnassis at the salon and almost hurt her eye with an eye pencil which she forgot to sharpen. In 1974, her works were noticed by then American Vogue beauty editor who attended the salon, and Sandy's international career started.

Born as Sandra Gilman in Brooklyn and grew up in Staten Island, she's the little daugther of American father Frederick "Fred" Gilman and Australian-born mother Joan Peel. She has the older sister Susan and the nephew Greg. Her parents divorced, and she also has the stepfather Louis Fuller.

In 1969, she married Adam Linter, a New York club holder. They divorced few years later. She never remarried and has no children.

She was a lover of the fashion legend Gia Carangi. The role of Linda in 1998 Gia was based on her. Elizabeth Mitchell played the role. The famous scandal photoshot was made by Chris von Wangenheim in 1978.

She also shot in the doc about Gia.

She took part in Studio 54 documentary, since she was a regular at the legendary club.

Also she participated in a documentary about another makeup legend Kevyn Aucoin together with her collegues and celebrities such as Lisa Eldridge and Naomi Campbell.
