Ilene Day was a South Carolina born singer who first came to attention performing in clubs in Washington, D.C. She rose to greater fame performing in Europe, and JET Magazine breathlessly reported her exploits romancing European playboys. Her most well known romance was an on/off affair with Diana Dors ex-husband Dennis Hamilton. In JET Magazine's June 6, 1963 issue, she claims that she had bought a wedding dress and was preparing to marry her on/off lover Hamilton in 1959 when he suddenly died. A heartbroken Ilene eventually returned to the US and began performing again in the Washington D.C. club scene. She also recorded a song with Duke Ellington in 1957 - "Duke Calls the Tune."
