Remote Reporter/Host, CP24

Cristina Tenaglia puts her passion for live field reporting to work as a Remote Reporter for CP24 since July 2012.

Cristina Tenaglia puts her passion for live field reporting to work as a Remote Reporter/Host for CP24 since July 2012. It was a homecoming for Tenaglia, who worked at 299 Queen Street West as a Researcher and Associate Producer for the Gemini-nominated and RTDNA-winning investigative news show SILVERMAN HELPS on CP24 (and CityNews), an investigative news team that worked to solve hundreds of cases for viewers each year.

Since joining the CP24 team, Tenaglia has covered big breaking stories including live coverage from the July 2012 Danzig Street shooting in Scarborough, live coverage of Premier McGuinty’s resignation in October 2012, the Toronto Flood in the summer of 2013, and more recently – Mayor Rob Ford’s Cancer diagnosis announcement, and the funeral for murdered soldier, Corporal Nathan Cirillo. While she thrives on big, breaking stories, Tenaglia also enjoys fun TV moments, like chatting with stars like Matthew McConaughy and Jennifer Aniston at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In 2011, Tenaglia was the recipient of the RTDNA Canada President’s Fellowship, while attending the acclaimed Poynter Institute for Journalism in St. Petersburg, Florida. An Honours graduate of Ryerson’s Radio and Television Arts program, Tenaglia worked as a reporter for Rogers Television in York Region through school. In her final year, she wrote and researched a senior-level thesis paper “Tonight’s Top Story and How it is Determined,” about how the top news story is chosen for large to medium local markets. Tenaglia enjoys continuing to learn about the changing world of journalism, and attends yearly news conferences, like the RTDNA Canada National Conference, and the U.S seminars for Investigative Reporters and Editors.

Prior to rejoining CP24, Tenaglia was a reporter, videographer, and anchor for CHCH News in Hamilton since 2008. While at CHCH, she covered some of Canada’s most high-profile court cases and murder trials. She thrives on court and crime reporting, but is also at home when covering politics, entertainment, and other breaking news.

Tenaglia spends time weekly mentoring students and young broadcasters, something she greatly enjoys. A cause that she volunteers for and supports is Gilda’s Club Toronto, a facility that provides free social and emotional support that benefits anyone living with cancer.
