They were rumoured to have struck up a friendship at Glastonbury festival last year, while he was still married to Gwyneth Paltrow.

Now it has been reported that less than two months after their split, Chris Martin was spotted on a night out with model and presenter Alexa Chung. According to Heat Magazine, the pair enjoyed a drink together last week at the trendy New York bar Elsa.

'When I arrived, about 9:15 p.m., they were tucked away in a dark corner of the back room of the bar,' a source tells the publication.

The source added: 'Chris and Alexa seemed to know each other really well. They were both in a great mood, and even asked us to watch their bags when they went out for a cigarette. It definitely looked like a date to me.'

MailOnline contacted representatives for both Chris and Alexa, who did not immediately respond. It is not the first time the pair have been spotted together. At Glastonbury festival last year, Jessica Goldsack told MailOnline how she had served them ice cream in the early hours of the morning.

'They turned up together at around 3 or 4am and came over to where I was working at Shaken Udder and said to me and my friend 'what do you recommend?'

'They looked like they were just chilling and having a good time. I did find it a little odd that they were together – but we had a little chat and they wandered off after they asked us if we knew of any good places to go and have a few drinks.
