She has stated that it was her mother who inspired her passion for acting.
In 2012, she appeared as a contestant in the Hindi-language reality singing television show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. She made it to the show’s top 5 contestants and competed in the finale along with Ajay Purkar, Ketki Thatte, Vaibhav Mangle, and Prashant Damle.
Along with Mohan Agashe, Iravati Harshe, Milind Soman, and Devika Daftardar, Amruta Subhash co-starred as Channamma in the 2015 Marathi-language film Astu: So Be It (or simply Astu). This won her the award for “Best Supporting Actress” at the 61st National Film Awards and for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Female)” at the 1st Filmfare Marathi Awards.
She released her first album titled Jata Jata Pawasane but it was a commercial failure.
Alongside Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Varma, and Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash co-starred as Razia Ahmed (mother of Murad Ahmed (a.k.a. Gully Boy) and Suhail) in the 2019 Hindi-language musical drama film Gully Boy. This performance won her the award for “Best Supporting Actress” at the 65th Filmfare Awards in 2020.
In 2021, she started to co-star as Lily in the Netflix drama series Bombay Begums. For this role, she bagged the Asian Academy Creative Award for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” and Filmfare OTT Award for “Best Supporting Actor (Female)”.
Amruta Subhash has worked with her mother on a number of projects including films such as Aaji, Zoka, Gandha, Masala, Nital, Valu, Badha, Gully Boy, and Vihir as well as a play titled Kalokhachya Leki.
A passionate theatre artist, she once stated, “Whether I am tired, sad or depressed… my plays never fail to uplift my mood and always make me feel rejuvenated at the end of it.”
