Winter War pilots

Yekaterina Ivanovna Zelenko (Russian: Екатерина Ивановна Зеленко, Ukrainian: Катерина Іванівна Зеленко; 23 February [O.S. 10 February] 1916 – 12 September 1941) was a Soviet Su-2 pilot who flew during the Winter War and World War II. She remains the only woman ever alleged to have performed an aerial ramming, though in recent years historians have begun to question the credibility of such reports.

Andrey Borisovich Yumashev (Russian: Андрей Борисович Юмашев; 31 March [O.S. 18 March] 1902 – 20 May 1988) was the co-pilot of the historic Moscow-North Pole-San Jacinto flight, for which he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union in 1937. Before the historic flight he worked as a test pilot, and during World War II he became a general.

Nils Edward Katajainen (31 May 1919 – 16 January 1997) was a Finnish fighter pilot and a Mannerheim Cross Knight. He held the military rank of sergeant. He flew 196 sorties and shot down 35 enemy aircraft.

Rolf Birger Ek (born 23 January 1911 in Kymi, Finland, dead 7 July 1990 in Lahti) was a Finnish pilot and Mannerheim Cross Knight.

Lauri Nissinen (31 July 1918 in Joensuu – 17 June 1944 in Kaukjärvi) was a World War II flying ace in the Finnish Air Force.

Jorma Karhunen (17 March 1913 – 21 January 2002) was a Finnish Air Force ace and an author.

Jorma Kalevi Sarvanto (22 August 1912 – 16 October 1963) was a Finnish Air Force pilot and the foremost Finnish fighter ace of the Winter War.

Risto Olli Pekka Puhakka (11 April 1916 in Sortavala – 28 January 1989) was one of the top scoring aces in the Finnish Air Force with 42 confirmed victories.

Oiva Emil Kalervo Tuominen (5 March 1908, Iitti – 28 January 1976, Helsinki) was a Finnish fighter ace and a Mannerheim Cross knight of the second class. He flew over 400 missions and shot down 44 Soviet aircraft. He was the most successful Finnish biplane fighter ace (flying Gloster Gladiators), and also the most successful Finnish Fiat G.50 Freccia pilot.

Ivan Dmitriyevich Borisov (Russian: Иван Дмитриевич Борисов; 1913 – 25 December 1939) was a Soviet military pilot who was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
