Võ Nguyên Giáp (25 August 1911 – 4 October 2013) was an army general in the Vietnam People's Army and a politician. Võ Nguyên Giáp has been called one of the greatest military strategists of the 20th century. He first rose to prominence during World War II, where he served as the military leader of the Viet Minh resistance against the Japanese occupation of Vietnam and also as Defence Minister & Deputy Prime Minister for nearly 44 years. Giáp was a crucial military commander in two wars: the First Indochina War of 1946–1954, and the Vietnam War of 1955–1975, participating in several historically significant battles: Cao Bằng in 1950, Hòa Bình in 1951–1952, Điện Biên Phủ in 1954, the Tết Offensive in 1968, the Easter Offensive in 1972, and the final Ho Chi Minh Campaign of 1975.

General Lê Trọng Tấn (3 October 1914 – 5 December 1986) was an officer of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) during 1945 to 1986. During this period of his military career, Lê Trọng Tấn held several senior positions of the Army. Lê Trọng Tấn participated in the Viet Minh movement before the August Revolution in 1945 and gradually became one of the most important figures of the Vietnam People's Army during the Second Indochina War. Being one of the key figures of the North Vietnam armed forces in Vietnam War, Lê Trọng Tấn was Deputy Commander of the Viet Cong (VC) and second commander of the 1975 Spring Offensive that effectively ended the war. Afterwards, he became Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of Defence of Vietnam until his death in December 1986. Lê Trọng Tấn was widely appreciated by his comrades, whom of which include general Võ Nguyên Giáp, as one of the finest commanders of the Vietnam People's Army.

Văn Tiến Dũng (2 May 1917 – 17 March 2002), born Co Nhue commune, Từ Liêm District, Hanoi, was a Vietnamese general in the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), PAVN chief of staff (1954–74); PAVN commander in chief (1974–80); member of the Central Military–Party Committee (CMPC) (1984-1986) and Socialist Republic of Vietnam defense minister (1980–86).

Nguyễn Hữu An (October 1, 1926 – April 9, 1995) was a general in the People's Army of Vietnam.

Lương Cường (born 15 August 1957) is a Vietnamese Army general and Director of the General Department of Politics of Vietnam. He was born on 15 August 1957 in Viet Tri District, Phu Tho Province, Vietnam. He became member of the Communist Party of Vietnam on 19 January 2011.

Đàm Quang Trung (September 12, 1921 – March 3, 1995) was a Vietnamese general in the People's Army of Vietnam. He served in the First Indochina War and Vietnam War.

Vũ Lập (born Nông Văn Phách) (1924–1987) was a colonel general in the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) active during Laotian Civil War and all three Indochina Wars. He commanded PAVN forces in Campaign 139 in Laotian Civil War, and PAVN Military Region 2 in Sino-Vietnamese War.

Hoàng Đan (1928–2003) was a major-general in the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), active during the First Indochina War, Vietnam War and Sino-Vietnamese War. He led PAVN forces in Battle of Thượng Đức (1974) and Battle of Lạng Sơn (1979).

Đàm Văn Ngụy (1927–2015) was a lieutenant-general in the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) active during all three Indochina Wars. He led PAVN 316th Division in the Battle of Ban Me Thuot.
