Stepan Prokofyevich Timoshenko (Russian: Степан Прокофьевич Тимошенко, Ukrainian: Степан Прокопович Тимошенко) (December 23, 1878 – May 29, 1972), was a Ukrainian, Russian, and later, an American engineer and academician. He is considered to be the father of modern engineering mechanics. An inventor and one of the pioneering mechanical engineers at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. A founding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Timoshenko wrote seminal works in the areas of engineering mechanics, elasticity and strength of materials, many of which are still widely used today. Having started his scientific career in the Russian Empire, Timoshenko emigrated to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes during the Russian Civil War and then to the United States.

Dean Roden Chapman (8 March 1922 – 4 October 1995) was a mechanical engineer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and at Stanford University.

Sunil K. Agrawal (born 1963) is an Indian roboticist and professor of Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science with secondary appointment in Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine at Columbia University.

Rolf A. Faste (1943–2003) was an American designer who made major contributions to the fields of human-centered design and design education. He was a professor of industrial design at Syracuse University from 1971–1984, and professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Stanford Joint Program in Design from 1984–2003. He is best known for his contributions to creative design practice, or "design thinking," which he advanced as a 'whole person' approach to problem solving centered on the perception of needs.

Wei Cai is a Chinese Associate Professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford University.

William Craig Reynolds (March 16, 1933 – January 3, 2004) was a fluid physicist and mechanical engineer who specialized in turbulent flow and computational fluid dynamics. He completed his undergraduate degrees, as well as his doctorate, all at Stanford University, in 1954, 1955, and 1957, respectively, after which he joined the faculty. He was chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 1972 to 1982 and again from 1989 to 1992. Reynolds was one of the pioneers in Large eddy simulation for fluid modeling. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1979. He won the Fluid Engineering Award of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1989 and the Otto Laporte Award by the American Physical Society in 1992.

Juan Carlos Simo (1952 – September 26, 1994) was a professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford who worked in the field of computational mechanics. His work focused on engineering analysis, particularly in the area of finite element analysis of inelastic solids and structures.

Kenneth Eugene Goodson (born August 1, 1967) is a mechanical engineer and academic at Stanford University. He serves as Davies Family Provostial Professor within the university, as well as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs within its School of Engineering.
