Rulers of the Gcaleka

Xolilizwe Mzikayise Sigcawu (26 June 1926 – 31 December 2005 was the 11th paramount chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 10 April 1965 to 31 December 2005. Xolilizwe was an active member of the House of Traditional Leaders. His was the oldest son of Bungeni Zwelidumile Sigcawu.

Khawuta ka Gcaleka (c. 1761-1804) was the second chief of the Gcaleka people, a sub-group of the Xhosa nation.

Zwelonke Sigcawu (1968 - ) is the 12th and current paramount chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 1 January 2006. Zwelonke was born as Mpendulo Sigcawu to Xolilizwe Mzikayise Sigcawu and Queen Nozamile.

Bungeni Zwelidumile Sigcawu (1906 in South Africa - 9 April 1965 was the 10th paramount chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 3 June 1933 to the 9 April 1965. He took over the reins when his oldest brother Mpisekhaya Ngangomhlaba Sigcawu died. He was born near Willowvale in the Cape Colony to Salukaphathwa Gwebi'nkumbi Sigcawu.

Mpisekhaya Ngangomhlaba Sigcawu was the 9th paramount chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 1923 to the 2 June 1933. His father was Salukaphathwa Gwebi'nkumbi Sigcawu.

Salukaphathwa Gwebi'nkumbi Sigcawu was the 7th chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 1902 until his death on the 30 May 1921. His father was Sigcawu ka Sarili.

Sigcawu ka Sarili was the 6th chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 1892 until his death in 1902. His father was Sarili ka Hintsa and mother Queen Nohuthe.

Sarili ka Hintsa (about 1810 - 1892) was the 5th chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation, and paramount chief of all the Xhosa, from 1835 until his death in 1892 at Sholora, Bomvanaland. He was also known as "Kreli", and led the Gcaleka armies in a series of frontier wars.

King Gcaleka KaPhalo (Born:1728-Died:1779) was the King of AmaXhosa Nation from 1755 to 1779. The third son of King Phalo kaTshiwo, he became King of the AmaXhosa Nation in 1755 right after his father died. King Gcaleka KaPhalo had 3 known sons, King Khawuta kaGcaleka (1761), Prince Velelo kaGcaleka and Prince Nqoko kaGcaleka.

Hintsa ka Khawuta (1789 – 12 February 1835), also known as Hintsa the Great or King Hintsa, was the 4th paramount Chief of the Gcaleka sub-group of the Xhosa nation from 1820 until his death in 1835.
