    Folque is a Norwegian folk rock band founded in 1973 by Morten Bing, Jørn Jensen (musician), Eilif Amundsen, Lisa Helljesen, Espen Løvstad, Trond Øverland, and Trond Villa. In 1972 a subset of the band was initially named «Brød & Vin» (Bread & wine), they changed the name to Folque in the spring of 1973 after adding members and traditional instruments to the ensemble.

    Pub rock was a rock music genre that developed in the mid 1970s in the United Kingdom. A back-to-basics movement, pub rock was a reaction against progressive and glam rock. Although short-lived, pub rock was notable for rejecting stadium venues and for returning live rock to the small pubs and clubs of its early years. It was the catalyst for the British punk rock scene.

    The Nude Pube Banglers are a Norwegian rock band, combining such punk rock influences as the Poison Idea and the Dead Boys, with hardcore, blues and rockabilly. Originally formed in the year 2000 in the provincial town of Steinkjer, the band is now operating out of Oslo, frequently touring Norway as well as Scandinavia.

    The Strapping Fieldhands are an American indie rock band based in Pennsylvania, and are associated with the Siltbreeze label and American lo-fi psych scene. The band's first live incarnation was a three-piece opening for The Frogs. During the 1990s the Fieldhands would tour extensively with The Grifters, Guided by Voices, Pavement, and Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, playing shows with The Fall, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Royal Trux and others.

Critics describe the music as a fusion of blues and rock music with Tuareg, Malian or North African music. Various other terms are used to describe it including desert rock, Saharan rock, Takamba, Mali blues, Tuareg rock or simply "guitar music". The style has been pioneered by Tuareg musicians in the Sahara region, particularly in Mali, Niger, Libya, Western Sahara, Algeria, Burkina Faso and others.

    Rock and roll is a musical genre from the United States, popularized worldwide beginning in the 1950s. Though rock had become popular earlier, it was not until the mid-1980s breakthrough of Laibach, who are now internationally renowned, that Slovenian rock became well-known. Other well-known Slovenian rock bands include Hic et Nunc, whose 1998 tour of the United States brought even more international attention to Slovenian rock.
