The festival has attracted more than 400,000 visitors across its history. The festival was replaced by the Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival from 2014-2016 but has been revived in 2017 while the Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival has ceased operations. In 2018, BIFF will be held at Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), with screenings to be held across multiple venues.

    The Hero Parade was an (almost) annual gay and lesbian parade in Auckland, New Zealand which operated from 1992-2001. It was part of the Hero Festival. The Hero Parade and Festival usually took place in February, a week or two ahead of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
