Populated places on the Rhône

Lyon or Lyons (, , Arpitan: Liyon, Italian: Lione, ) is the third-largest city and second-largest urban area of France. It is located at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône, about 470 km (292 mi) south of Paris, 320 km (199 mi) north of Marseille and 56 km (35 mi) northeast of Saint-Étienne. Inhabitants of the city are called Lyonnais.

Martigny (German: Martinach; Latin: Octodurum) is the capital of the district of Martigny in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It lies at an elevation of 471 meters (1,545 ft), and its population is approximately 15000 inhabitants (Martignerains or "Octoduriens"). It is a junction of roads joining Italy, France and Switzerland. One road links it over the Great St. Bernard Pass to Aosta (Italy), and the other over the col de la Forclaz to Chamonix (France). In winter, Martigny is known for its numerous nearby Alp ski resorts such as Verbier.

Geneva ( jin-EE-və; French: Genève Arpitan: Genèva German: Genf Italian: Ginevra Romansh: Genevra) is the second-most populous city in Switzerland (after Zürich) and the most populous city of Romandy, the French-speaking part of Switzerland. Situated where the Rhône exits Lake Geneva, it is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva.

Valence (, Occitan: Valença ) is a commune in southeastern France, the capital of the Drôme department and within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is situated on the left bank of the Rhône, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) south of Lyon, along the railway line that runs from Paris to Marseille.

Tournon-sur-Rhône is a commune in the Ardèche department in southern France.

Montélimar (Occitan: Montelaimar Latin: Acumum) is a commune in the Drôme department in southeastern France. It is the second-largest town in the department after Valence.

Pont-Saint-Esprit (Occitan: Lo Pònt Sant Esperit, "Holy Spirit Bridge") is a commune in the Gard département in southern France. It is situated on the Rhône River and is the site of a historical crossing, hence its name. The Ardèche River flows into the Rhône, just to the north of the bridge. The residents are called Spiripontains.

Vienne ( Arpitan: Vièna) is a commune in southeastern France, located 35 kilometres (22 mi) south of Lyon, on the river Rhône. It is only the fourth largest city in the Isère department, of which it is a subprefecture, but was a major center of the Roman Empire.

Arles (, , Provençal: Arle in both classical and Mistralian norms; Classical Latin: Arelate) is a city and commune in the south of France, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, of which it is a subprefecture, in the former province of Provence.

Brig, officially Brig-Glis (French: Brigue-Glis, Italian: Briga-Glis) is a historic town and a municipality in the district of Brig in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
