Adolf Ivar Arwidsson (7 August 1791 – 21 June 1858) was a Finnish political journalist, writer and historian. His writing was critical of Finland's status at the time as a Grand Duchy under the Russian Tsars. Its sharpness cost him his job as a lecturer at The Royal Academy of Turku and he had to emigrate to Sweden, where he continued his political activity. The Finnish national movement considered Arwidsson the mastermind of an independent Finland.

Enni Id (30 January 1904 Padasjoki – 4 April 1992 Padasjoki) was a Finnish self-taught painter. Her art is defined as naïve art.

Arvo Juhani Hilli (born 4 August 1930) is a Finnish hurdler. He competed in the men's 400 metres hurdles at the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Raija Tellervo Sollamo (née Pursula; born December 9, 1942 in Padasjoki) is a Finnish theologian and professor emerita of Biblical Languages in the Faculty of Theology, University of Helsinki. She was the first female professor in the field of theology in Finland. Between 1998 and 2003, Sollamo was vice-rector of the University of Helsinki, thereby becoming the first female vice-rector in Finland. From 2007 to 2010, she was president of The International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament (IOSOT).

Oskar Alexander Napoleon Schultz (16 September 1855, Padasjoki - 10 March 1919) was a Finnish engineer, civil servant and politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1907 to 1908, representing the Swedish People's Party of Finland (SFP).

Matti Niemi (born 15 November 1976) is a retired Finnish athlete who specialized in the 110 metres hurdles.

Juuso Pykälistö (born 21 May 1975) is a Finnish rally driver, who was born in Padasjoki. He has driven in the World Rally Championship with Citroën and Peugeot. Pykälistö has won the Arctic Rally twice.

Martti Johannes Suntela (3 January 1903 in Padasjoki – 21 July 1999) was a Finnish agronomist, farmer and politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1948 to 1951, representing the Agrarian League.
