Dame Dorothy Rita Fraser DBE QSO JP (née Tucker, 3 May 1926 – 24 May 2015) was a New Zealand community activist and local politician.

Mere Mete Whaanga (February 15, 1848 – May 11, 1944) was a pioneer and missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in New Zealand. She was a leader of the Maori Ngati Kahungunu tribe and helped to spread the gospel in her area after being baptized by American missionaries.

Hirini Whaanga Christy (16 August 1883 – 1 July 1955) was a New Zealand Mormon leader, farmer, interpreter, community leader. Of Māori descent, he identified with the Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Rakaipaaka iwi. He was born in Nuhaka, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand on 16 August 1883. He was a great grandson of Ihaka Whaanga.

Hawea Karepa Mataira (3 December 1910 – 15 November 1979) was a dual-code rugby football player who represented New Zealand in both rugby union and rugby league.

Hemi Potatau (20 May 1904 – 18 January 1994) was a New Zealand Presbyterian minister, soldier, writer. Of Māori descent, he identified with the Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Rakaipaaka iwi. He was born in Nuhaka, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand in 1904. He also wrote the Scots College Haka in 1959.
