Nicolae Filip (March 3, 1926 – 15 May 2009) was born in the village of Sofia, Bălți County to a family of farmers. He was an expert in the field of physics, and contributed significantly to the study of "The spread of ultrashort radio waves." He was elected an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.

Lidia Istrati (June 22, 1941 in Sofia – April 25, 1997 in Chişinău) was a writer and politician from Moldova. She was born to Nicolae and Xenia and had a PhD in biology.

Lidia Kulikovski (born March 8, 1951) is a Moldovan librarian and bibliographer. As head of the Hasdeu Municipal Library, she extended the library network opening nine branches in Chișinău focused mainly on Romanian literature.

Nicolae Testemițanu (1 August 1927 in Ochiul Alb, Drochia district – 20 September 1986) was a Moldovan scientist, surgeon, hygienist, and politician.

Valeriu Chițan (born 1 June 1955) is a Moldovan economist and politician. He served as the Minister of Finance of Moldova from 1994 until 1998.

Eugenia Ostapciuc (Russian: Евгения Владимировна Остапчук) (born October 19, 1947, Fîntîniţa, Moldova) is a Moldovan politician, member of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova. In 2001-2005 she was the President of the Moldovan Parliament.
