    Rosie Swale-Pope, MBE (born 2 October 1946) is a Irish-Swiss author, adventurer and marathon runner who successfully completed a five-year around-the-world run, raising £250,000 for a charity that supports orphaned children in Russia and to highlight the importance of early diagnosis of prostate cancer. Other achievements include sailing single-handed across the Atlantic in a small boat, and trekking 3,000 miles (4,800 km) alone through Chile on horseback.

    Tony Mangan (born 20 April 1957 in Dublin) is an ultra distance runner from Ireland. He completed on 27 October 2014 a 50 000 km distance running around the world for Aware, a charity helping to defeat depression. He is the current world 48 hour indoor track record holder 426.178 km. Also the world 48 hour treadmill record 405.22 km. Mangan states, "I didn't start running till I was almost 30. Then I dreamed of running around the World. I got delayed for over 20 years for many reasons, breaking a few world ultra records. Now I am retired from competition I can finally live my dream."

    Dave Kunst (born July 16, 1939 in Caledonia, Minnesota) is the first person independently verified to have walked around the earth. The walk was intended to be achieved along with his brother John, but in the event John was shot and killed by bandits, and Dave wounded; Dave resumed and completed the walk with another brother, Peter. His walk was officially stated to be 14,452 miles.

Garside began his record-setting run following two aborted attempts from Cape Town, South Africa and London, England. Garside set off from New Delhi, India on 20 October 1997, completing his run back at the same point on 13 June 2003.
