He was the first artist to sign with Drake's record label OVO Sound, an imprint of Warner Records in 2013. His self-titled debut studio album was released through the label in July that year, and met with critical praise.

It is his first album in four years since the release of Partymobile (2020), and marks the first installment of his eponymous album series in over seven years since PartyNextDoor 3 in 2016.
