Mexican mathematicians

Víctor Neumann-Lara (1933–2004) was a Mexican mathematician, pioneer in the field of graph theory in Mexico. His work also covers general topology, game theory and combinatorics.

Graciela Beatriz Salicrup López (México City, México, April 7, 1935 – July 29, 1982) was a Mexican architect, archaeologist, and mathematician. In the 1970s and 1980s, she was a pioneer in the field of categorical topology. Most of her work was published in Spanish, and her original contributions were not widely recognized until after her premature death.

Samuel Carlos Gitler Hammer (July 14, 1933 – September 9, 2014) was a Mexican mathematician. He was an expert in Yang–Mills theory and is known for the Brown–Gitler spectrum.

Mauro Graciano Ricalde Gamboa (November 21, 1873 – November 9, 1942) was a notable Mexican mathematician.

José Adem (born in Tuxpan, Veracruz, October 27, 1921; died February 14, 1991) was a Mexican mathematician who worked in algebraic topology, and proved the Adem relations between Steenrod squares.

Francisco Javier González-Acuña (nickname "Fico") is a mathematician in the UNAM's institute of mathematics and CIMAT, specializing in low-dimensional topology.

Carlos Castillo-Chavez (born 1952) is the Emeritus and Founding Director of the Mathematical and Computational Modeling Sciences Center at Arizona State University. He is a Regents Professor and Joaquín Bustoz Jr. Professor of Mathematical Biology at Arizona State University. Professor Castillo-Chavez was the Executive Director of the Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Institute (MTBI) and the Institute for Strengthening the Understanding of Mathematics and Science. He also worked as rector of Yachay Tech University in Ecuador during 2016 to 2018. For 2019, Castillo-Chavez is Provost Visiting Professor in the Applied Mathematics Division and Data Science Initiative at Brown University.

Alejandro Adem has been a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of British Columbia since 2005. He was Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences for the period 2008–2015 and during 2015-2019 was the CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs. Since October 1, 2019, he has been President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Vanesa Magar (also known as Vanesa Magar Brunner) is a Franco-Mexican scientist who works at the Physical Oceanography Department, Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education, Mexico, since 2014. She runs the Geophysical and Environmental Modelling Lab (https://ventummaris.com/gemlab/).

Enriqueta González Baz y de la Vega (September 22, 1915 – December 22, 2002) was a Mexican mathematician, a co-founder of the Mexican Mathematical Society, and the first woman to earn a degree in mathematics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1944.
