Mayors of Evanston, Illinois

Lorraine Hairston Morton (December 8, 1918 – September 8, 2018) was an American politician who was the mayor of Evanston, Illinois, from 1993 to 2009. Morton was Evanston's first African-American mayor, first Democratic mayor, and longest-serving mayor. She is also notable for spearheading the desegregation of Evanston's public schools as a teacher and school principal.

Stephen H. Hagerty (born 1968/1969) is an American businessman and politician. He was the 21st mayor of Evanston, Illinois from May 8, 2017 to May 10, 2021.

Elizabeth B. Tisdahl (born April 27, 1946) is the former mayor of Evanston, Illinois. She was Evanston's third female mayor and second Democratic mayor.

Humphrys Henry Clay Miller, or H.H.C. Miller (1845–1910), was an American attorney, and civic leader and three-term mayor of Evanston, Illinois. His first name is also frequently spelled Humphrey or Humphreys. He was the first Evanston mayor to be popularly elected.

Daniel Kálmán Biss (born August 27, 1977) is an American mathematician and politician who was the member of the Illinois Senate for the 9th district from January 2013 until January 2019. The district includes Chicago's northern suburbs, including Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette, and Winnetka. Biss first ran for office in 2008 and was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013. He was also a candidate in the Democratic primary for Governor of Illinois in the 2018 election.

Joan W. Barr (née Worthy; later Barr-Smith; November 22, 1939 – March 21, 2015) was an American politician, and the first woman elected as mayor to the city of Evanston, Illinois. Barr Smith was elected in 1985 and sworn into her position on April 22, 1985 by Cook County Circuit Judge Michael Toomin. Prior to her election to the role of mayor, she served eight years as an alderman to the city's Second Ward.

Henry Day Penfield (July 23, 1900 – October 29, 1984) was an American politician and the mayor of the city of Evanston, Illinois.
