Japanese film directors

Yoko Ono (Japanese: 小野 洋子, Ono Yōko, オノ・ヨーコ; born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, and peace activist. Her work also encompasses performance art and filmmaking.

Kōki Mitani (三谷 幸喜, Mitani Kōki, born July 8, 1961) is a Japanese playwright, screenwriter, actor and film director and was previously married to Japanese actress Satomi Kobayashi. He was named after Taihō Kōki, the youngest sumo wrestler to become yokozuna. He studied dramatics at Nihon University.

Takeshi Kitano (北野 武, Kitano Takeshi, born 18 January 1947) is a Japanese comedian, television presenter, actor, filmmaker, and author. While he is known primarily as a comedian and TV host in his native Japan, abroad he is better known for his work as a filmmaker. With the exception of his works as a film director, he is known almost exclusively by the stage name Beat Takeshi (ビートたけし, Bīto Takeshi).

Akira Kurosawa (Japanese: 黒澤明, Hepburn: Kurosawa Akira, March 23, 1910 – September 6, 1998) was a Japanese film director, screenwriter, and producer who directed 30 films in a career spanning 57 years. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema.

Yūji Tajiri (田尻裕司, Tajiri Yūji) is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is one of the group of pink film directors collectively known as the "Seven Lucky Gods of Pink" (ピンク七福神, shichifukujin), a group which also includes Toshiya Ueno, Mitsuru Meike, Shinji Imaoka, Yoshitaka Kamata, Toshirō Enomoto and Rei Sakamoto.

Tsuyoshi Takashiro (高城 剛, Takashiro Tsuyoshi) is a Japanese DJ, filmmaker, and writer.

Mitsuru Meike (女池充, Meike Mitsuru) is a Japanese film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is one of the group of prominent pink film directors known collectively as the "Seven Lucky Gods of Pink" (ピンク七福神, shichifukujin) which comprises Meike, Toshiya Ueno, Yūji Tajiri, Shinji Imaoka, Yoshitaka Kamata, Toshirō Enomoto and Rei Sakamoto.

Masaru Konuma (小沼勝, Konuma Masaru, December 30, 1937 – January 22, 2023) was a Japanese film director known for his Roman Porno films for Nikkatsu during the 1970s.

Tatsuo Fujioka (藤岡 竜雄, Fujioka Tatsuo, born August 19, 1980), better known as Dean Fujioka (ディーン・フジオカ, Dīn Fujioka, stylized as DEAN FUJIOKA), is a Japanese actor, singer-songwriter, musician, model and film director. He is a talent of Amuse, Inc.

Tak Sakaguchi (坂口 拓, Sakaguchi Taku, born March 15, 1975) is a Japanese actor, director, fight choreographer, and stuntman. He is best known for his role in Ryuhei Kitamura's cult film, Versus. Since his debut, Sakaguchi has worked with Kitamura several times, often appearing alongside fellow Kitamura staple Hideo Sakaki. He has also worked with frequent Kitamura collaborators Yudai Yamaguchi and Yuji Shimomura. Sakaguchi is a talented martial artist, and most often appears in films featuring copious fight scenes, usually performing all of his own stunts. He is purportedly skilled in Bajiquan, Shorinji Kempo, Boxing, Kickboxing, and while recently filming Re:Born learned the tactical martial art Zero Range Combat developed by Yoshitaka Inagawa.
