Internet in Iran

The Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM; Persian: پژوهشگاه دانشهای بنیادی, Pazhuheshgah-e Daneshhai-ye Boniadi), previously Institute for Studies in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics, is a public research institute in Tehran, Iran. IPM is directed by Mohammad-Javad Larijani, its original founder. The institute was the first Iranian organization to connect to the Internet and provide internet service to the nation. It is the domain name registry of .ir domain names.

The 2019 Internet blackout in Iran was a week-long total shutdown of the Internet in Iran. It was ordered by the Supreme National Security Council and imposed by the Ministry of ICT. The blackout was one of the Iranian government's efforts to suppress the 2019–2020 protests. During the blackout, Iranian citizens could only access the National Information Network. Mohammad-Javad Jahromi was sanctioned by the United States Department of the Treasury because of his role in Internet censorship in Iran.

The National Information Network (NIN) (Persian: شبکۀ ملی اطلاعات, Shabake-ye Melli-ye Ettelā'āt), also known as National Internet in Iran and the Iranian intranet, is an ongoing project to develop a secure, stable infrastructure network and national intranet in Iran.

The Iranian Cyber Police (Persian: پلیس فضای تولید و تبادل اطلاعات ایران, Polis-e Faza-ye Tolid vâ Tabadol-e Etelâ'at-e Iran, lit. The Police for the Sphere of the Production and Exchange of Information, also known as FATA Persian: فتا) is a unit of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police, founded in January 2011. In December 2012, the head of Tehran's cyber police unit was dismissed about the death of Iranian blogger Sattar Beheshti, who was being held in the cyber police's custody.

Abr Arvan (Persian: ابر آروان) is an Iranian content delivery network and cloud service company. As of 2020, it provided free cloud services to 300 Iranian companies. It also provides VOD, radar (network availability), object storage, Infrastructure as a service and Platform as a service to its buyers. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad it provides the cloud ecosystem for Iran. It had fifty thousand clients in 2020. Based on W3techs abr arvan is the eighth CDN provider in the world.

The Telecommunication Infrastructure Company (Persian: شرکت ارتباطات زیرساخت, TIC) is responsible for telecommunication networks infrastructure in Iran. It is working as the governmental body of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology with the aim of creating, developing, managing, organizing, supervising, maintaining and implementing the communication backbone of the country. Services provided include bandwidth providing and distribution (Internet, intranet, MPLS and VPLS), point-to-point services (inter-city, inter-provincial and international), cloud TDM service, international transit service (border to border), NIX and Peering services. Providing the internet services to mobile phone operators, ISPs, and scientific, cultural, economic and military centers are among other activities carried out by the company.
