Geography of Alpes-Maritimes

Mercantour National Park (French: Parc national du Mercantour) a French national park located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes departments. Since it was created in 1979, the park has proven popular, with 800,000 visitors annually enjoying the 600 km (372 mi) of marked footpaths and visiting its villages.

The Castellane Prealps (French: Préalpes de Castellane) are a massif of the southern French Prealps located in the departments of Alpes-Maritimes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Var. The easternmost part is often called the Préalpes de Grasse.

The Mercantour-Argentera massif (French: Massif du Mercantour-Argentera, Italian: Massiccio del Mercantour-Argentera) is a massif in the Maritime Alps located astride the French departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Italian region of Piedmont. The name of the massif comes respectively from the summit of Mercantour, a secondary central summit, and from Mount Argentera, the highest point of the massif (3,297 m (10,817 ft)), entirely in Italy.

The Baie des Anges (transl. Bay of Angels, Occitan: Baia dei Àngels) is a bay of the Mediterranean Sea, in Alpes-Maritimes, France, extending between the communes of Antibes to the west and Nice to the east. It is bordered by five municipalities: Antibes, Villeneuve-Loubet, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, and Nice. In Nice, the Baie des Anges is bordered by four major landmarks: Nice Côte d’Azur airport, the Promenade des Anglais, Lympia port [fr], and Mont Boron.

Grotte du Vallonnet is an archaeological site located near Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, between Monaco and Menton, in France, that was first discovered in 1958. Stone tools found at the site have been dated to between 1 and 1.05 million years old, making it one of the earliest sites of human settlement known in Europe.

The Pelat massif are a massif in the French Alps located in the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes. Its name comes from the main peak of the massif.

Cime de la Malédie (Italian: Cima Maledia) is a mountain in the Maritime Alps, on the France–Italy border. Its French part is located in the upper Gordolasque valley, in the commune of Belvédère, in the department of Alpes-Maritimes.

The Nice Prealps (French: Préalpes de Nice, Italian: Prealpi di Nizza) are a massif in the southern part of the French Prealps located mainly in the south-east of the French department of Alpes-Maritimes and, for a very small part, in the Italian region of Liguria between the Roya river and the Franco-Italian border.
