The song was released on 10 January 2020 with the Icelandic title "Gagnamagnið" (lit. '"The datavolume"'), the name of the band. It was set to represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on 29 February 2020. The band were going to compete in Eurovision with the English version of their song. Prior to the cancellation of the contest, the song was considered one of the favourites to win. The song became a viral hit, receiving acclaim by multiple international celebrities.

The song competed in the first semi-final, where it failed to qualify, finishing last (19th) with only 15 points.

    Iceland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Open Your Heart", composed by Hallgrímur Óskarsson, with lyrics by Sveinbjörn I. Baldvinsson and Birgitta Haukdal, and performed by Haukdal herself. The Icelandic participating broadcaster, Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), selected its entry through Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2003. The broadcaster returned to the contest after a one-year absence following their relegation in 2002 as one of the bottom six entrants in 2001. Fifteen songs competed in the national selection which was held on 15 February 2003. "Segðu mér allt" performed by Birgitta Haukdal emerged as the winner exclusively through public televoting. The song was later translated from Icelandic to English for Eurovision and was titled "Open Your Heart".

    "Coming Home" (Icelandic: "Aftur heim") is the Icelandic entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. It was performed by the tribute band Sjonni's Friends (in Icelandic Vinir Sjonna), made up of musicians Hreimur Örn Heimisson, Gunnar Ólason, Benedikt Brynleifsson, Vignir Snær Vigfússon, Matthías Matthíasson and Pálmi Sigurhjartarson, all of whom had worked with Sjonni.
