English Test cricket umpires

Harold Dennis "Dickie" Bird, OBE (born 19 April 1933) is an English retired international cricket umpire. During his long umpiring career, he became a much-loved figure among players and viewing public, due to his excellence as an umpire, but also his many eccentricities.

Ernest James "Tiger" Smith (6 February 1886 – 31 August 1979) was an English wicket-keeper who played in 11 Tests from 1911/1912 to 1914. In county cricket, he had a much longer career as the successor to Dick Lilley: he played for Warwickshire on a regular basis until 1930. After that, Tiger Smith took to umpiring and became so good in this new role that he umpired several Test matches between 1933 and 1938.

Michael Andrew Gough (born 18 December 1979) is an English cricket umpire and former cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. Gough is an international umpire and is a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, representing the England and Wales Cricket Board.

John West (11 November 1861 – 14 March 1920) was an English first-class cricketer and umpire. He played in 86 games for Middlesex County Cricket Club between 1885 and 1896 and he stood in one Test match in 1905.

David Robert Shepherd MBE (27 December 1940 – 27 October 2009) was a first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Gloucestershire, and later became one of the cricket world's best-known umpires. He stood in 92 Test matches, the last of them in June 2005, the most for any English umpire. He also umpired 172 ODIs, including three consecutive World Cup finals in 1996, 1999 and 2003

Arthur Jepson (12 July 1915 – 17 July 1997) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Nottinghamshire before becoming an umpire. In addition to cricket he was also an accomplished football goalkeeper who played over 100 games in the Football League before turning his hand to management.

Walker Wainwright (21 January 1882 – 31 December 1961) was an English first-class cricketer, who played twenty-four matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, and one for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), between 1903 and 1905. He also umpired one Test match. He was the younger brother of Ted Wainwright.

Richard Allan Kettleborough (born 15 March 1973) is an English international cricket umpire, and former first-class cricketer who appeared in 33 first-class matches for Yorkshire and Middlesex. He was a left-handed top order batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler. He attended Worksop College and was a member of the College cricket XI for a number of years.

Mervyn John Kitchen (born 1 August 1940), is a former English first-class cricketer and international umpire. In his playing days he was a left-handed batsman for Somerset County Cricket Club, making 15,230 runs in his 354 first-class games between 1960 and 1979. He topped the Somerset averages in 1966 and 1968. After retiring as a player he went on to become a first-class cricket umpire and he umpired in 20 Test matches and 28 One-Day Internationals before retiring from that at the age of 65 in 2005.

George Beet (24 April 1886 – 13 December 1946) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1910 and 1925 and for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1920. He was later an umpire.
