East German male discus throwers

Wolfgang Schmidt (born 16 January 1954) is a former German track and field athlete, who competed for East Germany at the 1976 Summer Olympics and won the silver medal in the discus throw. A former world record holder, he also won several medals at the European Athletics Championships. Schmidt made headlines in 1982 due to his failed attempt to escape from East Germany. He later competed for the Federal Republic of Germany and won third place in the 1990 European Athletics Championships. Born in Berlin, he competed for the SC Dynamo Berlin / Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo.

Jürgen Schult (born 11 May 1960) is a German former track and field athlete and as of 2019, the world record holder in the discus throw. Holding the title since 1986, it is the longest standing record in men's track and field. Schult represented East Germany in the 1988 Olympic competition in the discus throw on 1 October 1988, when he won the gold medal.

Siegfried Pachale is a German former Olympic discus thrower. He represented East Germany in the men's discus throw at the 1976 Summer Olympics. His distance was a 60.64 in the qualifiers, and a 64.24 in the finals. He is the father of German volleyball player Hanka Pachale.

Norbert Thiede is an East German former Olympic discus thrower. He represented his country in the men's discus throw at the 1976 Summer Olympics. His distance was a 61.14 in the qualifiers, and a 64.30 in the finals.

Hartmut Losch (11 September 1943 in Angermünde – 26 March 1997 in Neu Fahrland) was a German athlete who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics, in the 1968 Summer Olympics, and in the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Armin Lemme (28 October 1955 – 1 August 2021) was a track and field athlete from East Germany who competed in the men's discus throw event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He set his personal best (68.50 metres) in 1982. Lemme was born in Packebusch, Bezirk Magdeburg on 28 October 1955. He and died in Berlin on 1 August 2021, at the age of 65.

Detlev Thorith (27 September 1942 – 18 July 2019) was an East German discus thrower. He was born in Köslin. He started for the Sportvereinigung (SV) Dynamo. He competed in the men's discus throw at the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Wolfgang Warnemünde (born 8 May 1953 in Grevesmühlen) is a retired East German discus thrower.

Lothar Milde (born 8 November 1934) was an East German athlete who competed mainly in the discus throw. He was born in Halle an der Saale.
