Contemporary artists

Angelo Keder, born 1955, is a Swedish contemporary artist. Keder worked as a transcriber at the National Museum of Art in Stockholm (nationalmuseum), Sweden. He made his artistic debut in 1973 at Dickens Gallery, Lausanne, Switzerland and has since exhibited at a variety of commercial art galleries and art fairs worldwide, but he got his breakthrough in Sweden during the early part of the 1980s exhibiting at various spaces and locations. Among places he has exhibited in Sweden are the Stockholm Art Fair Sollentuna and “Lilla Bleu” gallery in Stockholm, Sweden. There he exhibited with artists such as Olle Bonniér and Peter Dahl.

Yoko Ono (Japanese: 小野 洋子, Ono Yōko, オノ・ヨーコ; born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, and peace activist. Her work also encompasses performance art and filmmaking.

Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola; August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture. Some of his best known works include the silkscreen paintings Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962), the experimental films Empire (1964) and Chelsea Girls (1966), and the multimedia events known as the Exploding Plastic Inevitable (1966–67).

Dustin Yellin (born July 22, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is a contemporary artist living in Brooklyn, New York. He is known for his work in which the artist embeds "hundreds of little pictures, drawings and images clipped out of magazines, art books and the like" to form complex and intricate tableaux in miniature, which the critic, Gilda Williams, writing in Artforum, noted provides viewers "the ability to occupy a divine vantage point while enjoying an overwhelming sense of discovery and wonder". These works, which the artist refers to as "Frozen Cinema", have been featured at such notable sites as New York's Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C as well as at the Brooklyn Museum, where Yellin's work is part of the permanent collection. Yellin has likewise participated in The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Artist Project. According to Andrew Durbin, "Yellin has formalized the central task of art—to archive: feelings, objects, events, selves—in his large glass blocks, recalling in their extreme hermeneutical diversity (forms within forms within forms, images within images within images) both as a past in which the representation of the human form was art's most recognizable enterprise and a future in which that enterprise is deeply complicated by the fact that the human form has been shredded, reformatted, revised, and redesigned, made precarious and permeable by technological and ecological shifts."

George Condo (born 1957) is an American contemporary visual artist. He works in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking, and lives and works in New York City.

Matthew Barney (born March 25, 1967) is an American contemporary artist and film director who works in the fields of sculpture, film, photography and drawing, and whose works explore intertwining connections among geography, biology, geology and mythology as well as themes of conflict and failure. His early pieces were sculptural installations combined with performance and video. Between 1994 and 2002, he created The Cremaster Cycle, a series of five films described by Jonathan Jones in The Guardian as "one of the most imaginative and brilliant achievements in the history of avant-garde cinema." He is also known for Drawing Restraint 9 (2005) and River of Fundament (2014), as well as his past relationship with Icelandic musician Björk.

Diane Arbus (March 14, 1923 – July 26, 1971) was an American photographer. Arbus worked to normalize marginalized groups and highlight the importance of proper representation of all people. She worked with a wide range of subjects including; strippers, carnival performers, nudists, dwarves, children, mothers, couples, elderly people, and middle-class families. She photographed her subjects in familiar settings: their homes, on the street, in the workplace, in the park. "She is noted for expanding notions of acceptable subject matter and violates canons of the appropriate distance between photographer and subject. By befriending, not objectifying her subjects, she was able to capture in her work a rare psychological intensity." In his 2003 New York Times Magazine article, "Arbus Reconsidered," Arthur Lubow states, "She was fascinated by people who were visibly creating their own identities—cross-dressers, nudists, sideshow performers, tattooed men, the nouveaux riches, the movie-star fans—and by those who were trapped in a uniform that no longer provided any security or comfort." Michael Kimmelman writes in his review of the exhibition Diane Arbus Revelations, that her work "transformed the art of photography (Arbus is everywhere, for better and worse, in the work of artists today who make photographs)".

Sam Havadtoy (born August 4, 1952) is a British born Hungarian-American interior designer, contemporary painter and owner of Gallery 56.

Laura Phillips Anderson (born June 5, 1947) is an American avant-garde artist, composer, musician and film director whose work spans performance art, pop music, and multimedia projects. Initially trained in violin and sculpting, Anderson pursued a variety of performance art projects in New York during the 1970s, focusing particularly on language, technology, and visual imagery. She became more widely known outside the art world when her single "O Superman" reached number two on the UK singles chart in 1981. She also starred in and directed the 1986 concert film Home of the Brave.

David Emanuel (born 17 November 1952) is a Welsh fashion designer who is best known for designing, with his then-wife Elizabeth Emanuel, the wedding dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1981.
