Chiefs of Defence (Norway)

Harald Sunde (born 9 March 1954 in Hurdal) is a Norwegian military officer. He has served as the head of the Norwegian Armed Forces from 1 October 2009 through November 2013.

Haakon Stephen Bruun-Hanssen (born 8 July 1960 in Bergen) is a Norwegian officer with the rank of Admiral and Inspector General of the Navy. He was appointed head of the operational headquarters of the Norwegian Armed Forces and Chief of Defence in 2013.

Torolf Rein (born 20 October 1934) is a Norwegian military officer, an admiral of the Royal Norwegian Navy. He served as Chief of Defence of Norway from 1989 to 1994.

Vigleik Eide (4 December 1933 – 30 October 2011) was a Norwegian diplomat and military officer, a General in the Norwegian Army who served two years as Chief of Defence of Norway, and four years as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.

Elias Corneliussen, KCB (3 August 1881 – 6 April 1951) was a Norwegian military officer and an admiral of the Royal Norwegian Navy. He served as acting Chief of Defence of Norway from January to May 1946.

Bjarne Øen (6 November 1898 – 20 September 1994) was a Norwegian pilot, military officer and Lieutenant General of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. During World War II he played a central role in building up the Royal Norwegian Air Force in Canada and the United Kingdom. He served as Chief of Defence of Norway from 1957 to 1963.

General Sverre Diesen (born 18 November 1949 in Oslo) is a Norwegian military officer and former Chief of Defence of Norway. Diesen was succeeded as Chief of Defence by Lieutenant General Harald Sunde on 1 October 2009.

Otto Ruge (9 January 1882 – 15 August 1961) was a Norwegian general. Ruge was Commander-in-chief of the Royal Norwegian Armed Forces after Nazi Germany's assault on Norway in April 1940.
