Botswana LGBTQ rights activists

Katlego Kai Kolanyane-Kesupile (born January 1988, also known as Kat Kai Kol-Kes) is a performance artist, musician, writer and LGBT activist from Botswana. She is known for being the first public figure from the country to openly identify as a transgender person. She is also the first person from Botswana to be named a TED Fellow.

Caine Youngman (born in Francistown) is a human rights activist and member of the LGBT rights movement in Botswana. He first gained international attention in 2011 when he tried to overturn the country's ban on same-sex relations. He currently serves as policy and legal advocacy manager at human rights group LEGABIBO (Lesbians, Gays & Bisexuals of Botswana). He is also on the regional board of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association. Caine has been attacked by Steven Anderson for his sexual orientation and was involved in the 2019 High Court case which led to the decriminalisation of consensual same-sex relations.

Monica Tabengwa is a lawyer and researcher from Botswana who works for Pan-Africa ILGA and Human Rights Watch (HRW). She is a specialist on LGBT issues in sub-Saharan Africa. Tabengwa has written on violence and discrimination faced by LGBT people in sub-Saharan Africa.
