Assassinated Ecuadorian politicians

Jaime Ricaurte Hurtado González (7 February 1937 – 17 February 1999) was an Ecuadorian politician of African descent aligned with the Democratic People's Movement (MPD), a deputy in the Ecuadorian parliament, and at the time of his death was standing for election to the Ecuadorian presidency.

Fernando Alcibiades Villavicencio Valencia (11 October 1963 – 9 August 2023) was an Ecuadorian politician, activist and journalist who was a candidate for President of Ecuador in the 2023 general election at the time of his assassination. He served as a member of the National Assembly from 2017 until the dissolution of the legislative body on 17 May 2023. Prior to his political career, he was known for denouncing Petroecuador and the government of Rafael Correa.

Gabriel Gregorio Fernando José María García Moreno y Morán de Butrón (December 24, 1821 – August 6, 1875), Duke of the Holy Faith (pontifical), Knight with the Collar of the Order of Pope Pius IX, was an Ecuadorian politician who twice served as President of Ecuador (1861–65 and 1869–75) and was assassinated during his second term, after being elected to a third. He is noted for his conservatism, Catholic religious perspective and rivalry with liberal strongman Eloy Alfaro. Under his administration, Ecuador became a leader in science and higher education within Latin America. In addition to the advances in education and science, he was noted for economically and agriculturally advancing the country, as well as for his staunch opposition to corruption, even giving his own salary to charity. However, a contemporary account from a consortium of London publishers, The Annual Register for 1875, reports, "the deceased President was a ruler more feared than loved in the Republic whose destinies he had guided for nearly fifteen years, having governed it rather as a military dictator than as the head authority of a Liberal Constitution.”

Agustín Aníbal Intriago Quijano (20 January 1985 – 23 July 2023) was an Ecuadorian lawyer and politician.

Melany Brigitte García Farías (27 January 1997 – 23 March 2024) was an Ecuadorian politician, nurse, and social worker who served as mayor of San Vicente from May 2023 until her assassination. She was a member of the left-wing Citizen Revolution Party.

Diana Carnero Elizalde (22 January 1995 – 7 February 2024) was an Ecuadorian politician from the Citizen Revolution Movement.

Joffre Patricio Mendoza Palma (18 January 1964 – 21 December 2020), also called as Cholo Mendoza, was an Ecuadorian agronomist and politician. Among the public positions he held were deputy and national assemblyman, as well as mayor of the Buena Fe Canton for two consecutive terms.

Abdón Calderón Muñoz (20 January 1924 – 9 December 1978) was an Ecuadorian politician and economist. He was the founder of the Alfarista Radical Front. He was a candidate for president of Ecuador in the 1978 general election shortly before his assassination.
