    The Eurovision Song Contest 1994 was the 39th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 30 April 1994 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ), and presented by Cynthia Ní Mhurchú and Gerry Ryan, the contest was held in Ireland following the country's victory at the 1993 contest with the song "In Your Eyes" by Niamh Kavanagh. It was the first time that any country had hosted two successive editions of the contest, following the previous year's contest held in Millstreet.

    The Peshkëpi incident was the killing of 2 Albanian army officers on 10 April 1994 at 02:40 AM. Eight men, later identified as members of the Northern Epirus Liberation Front, a Greek nationalist paramilitary organization, were involved in an attack on an Albanian army barracks in Peshkëpi, Dropull, Albania in April 1994. Two Albanian border soldiers were killed while sleeping; three were wounded.

    The Papal Concert to Commemorate the Shoah (Holocaust) was the first official Vatican commemoration of the murder of six million Jews by the Nazis during World War II. It took place in the Sala Nervi (also called Paul VI Audience Hall) at the Vatican on April 7, 1994. The concert was conceived and created at the direct behest of Pope John Paul II by the American conductor Gilbert Levine, who had first met the Pope after he was appointed artistic director and conductor of the Krakow Philharmonic, in December 1987. Pope John Paul II, Rav Elio Toaff, the Chief Rabbi of Italy, and Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, President of Italy jointly presided over the event, and viewed it from positions of equal honor.

    KLM Cityhopper Flight 433 was a Saab 340B, registered as PH-KSH, which crashed during an emergency landing on 4 April 1994 and killing 3 occupants, including the captain. Flight 433 was a routine scheduled flight from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to Cardiff, Wales. The accident was caused by inadequate pilot training and a faulty sensor, leading to loss of control during go-around.

    On Tuesday, 5 April 1994, 35-year-old Flemming Nielsen of Silkeborg shot four female students, killing two of them, at Aarhus University in Denmark. Nielsen had been a student at the university since 1986. He opened fire with a sawed-off shotgun in a university cafeteria where he killed his first victim, 24-year-old Birgit Bohn Wolfsen. The remaining students in the room managed to escape. Nielsen proceeded into another cafeteria and opened fire again, killing his second victim, 27-year-old Randi Thode Kristensen. Another two people were wounded but survived.
