Major-General Ahmed Bousteila (Arabic: أحمد بوسطيلة‎) was the former commander of the National Gendarmerie of Algeria. from the 5 July 2000 until the 10 of September 2015.

Liamine Zéroual (Arabic: اليمين زروال‎ ALA-LC: al-Yamīn Zarwāl; Berber: Lyamin Ẓerwal; born 3 July 1941) is an Algerian politician who was the sixth President of Algeria from 31 January 1994 to 27 April 1999.

Ahmed Gaid Salah (Arabic: أحمد قايد صالح; 13 January 1940 – 23 December 2019) was a senior leader in the Algerian People's National Army. In 2004, he was appointed by then-President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to the position of chief of staff of the army. On 15 September 2013, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense. Gaid Salah was promoted to the rank of General in 1993. He was married and father of seven children. Gaid Salah served as Algeria's de facto leader in 2019.

Lt. Gen. Mohamed Lamari (7 June 1939 – 13 February 2012) (Arabic: محمد العماري) was Chief of Staff of the Algerian army during most of the Algerian Civil War.

Major-General Khaled Nezzar (Arabic: خالد نزّار; 25 December 1937 – 29 December 2023) was an Algerian general and a member of the High Council of State of Algeria. He was born in the douar of Thlet, in Seriana in the Batna region. His father, Rahal Nezzar, was a former non-commissioned officer in the French army who had turned to farming after World War II. His mother died in 1941.

General Mohamed Mediène (Arabic: الجنرال محمد مدين‎), also known as Toufik (توفيق), was head of the Algerian secret services, the Intelligence and Security Department (Département du renseignement et de la sécurité, DRS), from 1990 to 2015. He was described as the world's longest serving "intelligence chief".

Fatima Zohra Ardjoune is an Algerian Army general. She is the first woman in the Arab world to attain this rank. A medical doctor, she pioneered research in the field of hematology in the country in the 1980s. She serves as director-general of the army's central hospital.

Saïd Chengriha (Arabic: سعيد شنقريحة; born 1 August 1945) is a senior official in the Algerian People's National Army. He was the commander of the ground forces in September 2018 and was named acting chief of staff after the death of Ahmed Gaid Salah on 23 December 2019 until 3 July 2020 when he was officially appointed by president Abdelmadjid Tebboune. In November 2024, General Chengriha joined the Tebboune government as delegate for national defense.

Menad Nouba (Arabic: مناد نوبة‎) is the commander of the National Gendarmerie of Algeria from the 10 of September 2015 to 2018.

Major General Smain Lamari (Arabic: إسماعيل العماري‎, 1941 – August 28, 2007) was the head of an Algerian intelligence service, the Department of Counter-Espionage and Internal Security. Along with Generals Mohamed Lamari (unrelated to him), Khaled Nezzar, Larbi Belkheir and "Toufik" Médiène, he was one of the influential Algerian Generals. Lamari was close to Larbi Belkheir, now ambassador in Morocco. Lamari died from a heart attack, and was buried in the Cemetery El Alia reserved for high ranking Algerian officials, in the presence of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
