    Birsa Munda pronunciation ; 15 November 1875 – 9 June 1900) was an Indian tribal freedom fighter, religious leader, and folk hero who belonged to the Munda tribe. He spearheaded a tribal religious millenarian movement that arose in the Bengal Presidency (now Jharkhand) in the late 19th century, during the British Raj, thereby making him an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement. The revolt mainly concentrated in the Munda belt of Khunti, Tamar, Sarwada and Bandgaon.

    Amar Shaheed Veer Ganga Narayan Singh (25 April 1790 - 7 February 1833) is called the hero of Bhumij rebellion. The revolt by the Bhumijs against the British in more than 60 years, from 1767 AD to 1833 AD, has been called the Bhumij Rebellion. The British have called it "Ganga Narayan's Hungama" while historians have also written it as the Chuad rebellion. In 1765 AD, Shah Alam, the emperor of Delhi, gave the Diwani of Bengal, Bihar, Orissa to the East India Company. Due to this exploitation of the tribals started, then the Bhumij revolted.

For much of the period of British rule in the Indian subcontinent, they were known as the Depressed Classes.

    Malavath Purna (also called Malavath Poorna, Purna Malavath, or Purna Malavath; born 10 June 2000) is an Indian mountaineer. On 25 May 2014, Poorna scaled the highest peak of Mount Everest and, aged 13 years and 11 months, became the youngest Indian and the youngest girl in the world to have reached the summit. The youngest person, male or female, to summit Mount Everest is Jordan Romero, who reached the summit at age 13 years and 10 months. She was accompanied by Sandhanapalli Anand Kumar from Khammam. She scaled Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia and in Europe on 27 July 2017. After reaching the summit of Elbrus, she unfurled a 50ft long Indian Tricolor singing the Indian National Anthem.

    Shaheed Jirpa Singh Laya (3 May 1774 - 13 April 1833), was a revolutionary and the leader of Bhumij rebellion. Before independence, when the British started forcibly cultivating indigo from Indian farmers, breaking the traditional system, collecting salt tax was unlimited, auction system, Daroga system started, violation of inheritance rule, the British were beginning to establish their rights on the water, the forest and the land. In such a situation, the 'Bhumij Rebellion' started after getting fed up with the British rule. In Indian history, this movement is also known as 'Chuar Movement'. Jirpa Laya (Jilpa Laya) was appointed as the chief commander of the Ganganarayan Singh's army.

    Shaheed Raghunath Singh (Bhumij),(17 February 1795 - 23 September 1834) was the freedom fighter and great leader of the Chuar rebellion. He led the Chuar rebellion against British rule and was martyred by hanging on 23 September 1834. Raghunath Singh was originally a resident of Dampara in Ghatshila area and was a zamindar of 60 Maujas. His grandfather Jagannath Singh and father Baidyanath Singh have also died fighting against the British.

    The Kurukh or Oraon, also spelt Uraon or Dhangad, (Kurukh: Karḵẖ and Oṛāō) are a Dravidian speaking ethnolinguistic group inhabiting Chhotanagpur Plateau and adjoining areas - mainly the Indian states of Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. They predominantly speak Kurukh as their native language, which belongs to the Dravidian language family. In Maharashtra, Oraon people are also known as Dhangad.
