21st-century Welsh painters

Shani Rhys James MBE (born 1953) is a Welsh painter based in Llangadfan, Powys. She has been described as "arguably one of the most exciting and successful painters of her generation" and "one of Wales’ most significant living artists". She was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art in 1994. In the 2006 New Years Honours she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for "services to art".

Michael Gustavius Payne (born 1969) is a Welsh figurative painter. He paints primarily in oils and is influenced by mythological themes within a contemporary context. During his early exhibiting career he was known as Michael Payne, before he began using his full name. Since late 2012 he has dropped his first name and now uses the shorter Gustavius Payne.

Annie Williams (born 1942) is a watercolour artist who won the 2009 Turner Watercolour Award.

Molly Parkin (born Molly Noyle Thomas, 1932) is a Welsh painter, novelist and journalist, who became most notable for her work on Nova magazine, newspapers and television in the 1960s.

Aneurin M. Jones (1930 – 25 September 2017) was a Welsh painter.

Peter Douglas Edwards, (born 20 November 1955), is a British painter. Winner of the 1994 BP Portrait Award.

Martyn Jones (born 1955) is a British contemporary painter who works from his studio in Cardiff, Wales.

Ben Johnson (born 24 August 1946) is a British painter, known for his series of large, detailed cityscapes.

John Beard (born 1943) is a Welsh artist and painter born in Aberdare, Wales, he is now based in Sydney, Lisbon and London.

Sir John "Kyffin" Williams, OBE, RA (9 May 1918 – 1 September 2006) was a Welsh landscape painter who lived at Pwllfanogl, Llanfairpwll, on the Island of Anglesey. Williams is widely regarded as the defining artist of Wales during the 20th century.
