20th-century Vietnamese writers

Trinh T. Minh-ha (born 1952 in Hanoi) is a Vietnamese filmmaker, writer, literary theorist, composer, and professor. She has been making films for over thirty years and may be best known for her films Reassemblage, made in 1982, and Surname Viet Given Name Nam, made in 1985. She has received several awards and grants, including the American Film Institute's National Independent Filmmaker Maya Deren Award, and Fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council. Her films have been the subject of twenty retrospectives.

Thích Nhất Hạnh ( born as Nguyễn Xuân Bảo; 11 October 1926 – 22 January 2022) was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, and founder of the Plum Village Tradition, historically recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism.

Thích Thanh Từ (born July 24, 1924) is a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk. He has been most influential of increasing traditional Vietnamese Buddhism practices in Vietnam.

Tony Le-Nguyen is an Vietnamese-Australian actor, director, producer and writer. Le-Nguyen is perhaps best known for his role as Tiger in the 1992 Australian drama film Romper Stomper. He changed his name to Tony Lee when began working as an actor in 1985. He is currently the Executive Producer for Le-Nguyen Productions based in Melbourne, Australia.

Ðào Thị Nguyệt Minh (January 29, 1903 – 1964), known by the pseudonym Vân Ðài, was a Vietnamese poet. Well known as one of Vietnam's primary female poets, Vân Ðài's work is also closely associated with the Resistance during the Vietnam War. In 1943 Vân Ðài published Hương Xuân, the first women's poetry collection in quốc ngữ (the Vietnamese alphabet), together with Hằng Phương, Mộng Tuyết, and Anh Thơ. Vân Ðài was selected by the editorial board of Feminist Publishing House of New York City University as one of the pioneer poets of the New Poetry style.

Anh Thơ (Ninh Giang, Hải Dương Province, 25 January 1921 – 14 March 2005), real name Vương Kiều Ân, was a Vietnamese poet.

Xuân Quỳnh (6 October 1942 – 29 August 1988) was a Vietnamese famous modern female poet. She and her husband Lưu Quang Vũ and their 12-year-old son Lưu Quỳnh Thơ died in a car accident in Hải Dương city on 29 August 1988.

Nguyễn Tiến Hưng (also known as Gregory Tien Hung Nguyen) (born November 1, 1935) was Minister of Economic Development and Planning in the Republic of Vietnam and one of President Nguyễn Văn Thiệu's closest advisers. As of 2010, he is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Vũ Trọng Phụng (Hanoi, 20 October 1912 - Hanoi, 13 October 1939) was a popular Vietnamese author and journalist, who is considered to be one of the most influential figures of 20th century Vietnamese literature. Today, several of his works are taught in Vietnamese schools.

Thiếu Sơn (1908–1978), birth name Lê Sĩ Quý, was a Vietnamese writer, journalist, literary critic and revolutionary.
