2019 film festivals

The 15th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival was held from August 2–13, 2019 in Metro Manila, Philippines. A total of ten full-length features and ten short films competed. The festival was opened by the film Ang Hupa by Lav Diaz and its closing film was Mina-Anud by Kerwin Go.

The 72nd annual Locarno Festival is scheduled to be held from 7 August to 17 August 2019. The debut feature by Italian director-producer Ginevra Elkann's Magari will open the festival, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa's To the Ends of the Earth will be screened as closing film.

The 1st Diorama International Film Festival & Market was organized in Delhi. The first edition of the festival showcased 104 films from all around the world. The festival is an initiative of Indian Film Institute, a Non-Governmental Organisation, aimed at promoting the appreciation of the cinematic art. The 1st Diorama International Film Festival & Market was held from January 14 to January 20, 2019.The second edition of the Festival takes place between 12-18 December 2019 in New Delhi.

The 69th annual Berlin International Film Festival took place from 7 to 17 February 2019. French actress Juliette Binoche served as the Jury President. Lone Scherfig's drama film The Kindness of Strangers opened the festival. The Golden Bear was won by Israeli-French drama Synonyms directed by Nadav Lapid, which also served as the closing film of the festival.

The 76th annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 28 August to 7 September 2019. Film director Lucrecia Martel was appointed as the President of the Jury. The Truth, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, was selected to open the festival. The Golden Lion was awarded to Joker, directed by Todd Phillips.

The 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is the 45th edition of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival held in Metro Manila and throughout the Philippines. It is organized by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). During the festival, no foreign films are shown in Philippine theaters (except IMAX and 4D theaters).

The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival took place from 14 to 25 May 2019. Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu served as jury president. The Palme d'Or went to the South Korean film Parasite, directed by Bong Joon-ho; Bong became the first Korean director to win the award.

The 30th Stockholm International Film Festival took place on 6–17 November 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The 37th Fajr Film Festival (Persian: سی و هفتمین جشنواره فیلم فجر) held from 1 to 11 February 2019 in Tehran, Iran. The nominees for the 37th Fajr Film Festival were announced on February 10, 2019, at a press conference.

The 46th Telluride Film Festival took place from August 30 to September 2, 2019, in Telluride, Colorado, United States.
