1980s British television talk shows

Wogan is a British television talk show which was broadcast on BBC1 from 1982 to 1992 and presented by Terry Wogan. It was usually broadcast live from the BBC Television Theatre in Shepherd's Bush, London, until 1991. It was then broadcast from the BBC Television Centre (TVC). Some shows were pre-recorded and then broadcast unedited "as live". Wogan ended its run in July 1992 and was replaced in the schedule by the soap opera Eldorado.

Parkinson was a British television chat show presented by Michael Parkinson. It was first shown on BBC One from 19 June 1971 to 10 April 1982 and from 9 January 1998 to 24 April 2004. Parkinson then switched to ITV on which the show continued from 4 September 2004 to 22 December 2007. A parallel series was shown in Australia on the ABC between 1979 and 1982. A series entitled Parkinson One to One was produced by Yorkshire Television from 28 March 1987 to 23 July 1988.

Friday Night, Saturday Morning was a UK television chat show with a revolving guest host. It ran on BBC2 from 28 September 1979 to 2 April 1982, broadcast live from the Greenwood Theatre, a part of Guy's Hospital. It was notable for being the only television show to be hosted by a former British Prime Minister (Harold Wilson), and for an argument about the blasphemy claims surrounding the film Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979).

Pebble Mill at One was a British television magazine programme that was broadcast live weekdays at one o'clock on BBC1, from 2 October 1972 to 23 May 1986 and again from 20 October 1991 to 25 May 1996. It was transmitted from the Pebble Mill studios of BBC Birmingham, and uniquely, was hosted from the centre's main foyer area, rather than a conventional television studio.

Right to Reply (sometimes called R2R) is a British television series shown on Channel 4 from 1982 until 2001, which allowed viewers to voice their complaints or concerns about TV programmes. It featured reports, usually presented by a viewer, and interviews with the programme-makers concerned.

Sin on Saturday was a British live, late-night chat show based on the theme of the seven deadly sins. It was produced by BBC Scotland, but it was pulled from the schedules after only three broadcasts. Originally, the show was to broadcast eight episodes. The first seven were to be based on each of the deadly sins, and the eighth one intended to round off the series by talking about being caught sinning.

Star Test is a British TV programme that ran from 4 April 1989 to 17 March 1991 on Channel 4. The show took an interview format, in which the guest "star" was seated facing directly to camera, questioned by an unseen voice (Kara Noble). The topics discussed were chosen from an on-screen menu, after which the interviewee selected questions by number from an unseen list. The show was lampooned in two British comedy sketch shows; French and Saunders and Bo' Selecta!, the latter being some 12 years after Star Test ended.

Loose Talk is a British chat show that ran for two series on Channel 4 in 1983. It was presented by Steve Taylor, along with a different guest presenter each week. It featured bands including Grace Jones, Robert Wyatt, Squeeze, Jools Holland, Tenpole Tudor, the Cocteau Twins on 11 October 1983 and the first TV appearance for Sade. The news section was written by Marek Kohn who was a features writer for The Face. The producers Madeleine French and Don Coutts also produced the 1970s Community Programmes series 'Something Else'.

Kilroy was a BBC One daytime chat show hosted by Robert Kilroy-Silk that began on 24 November 1986 and finished on 29 January 2004 after 17 years. Originally called Day to Day, the programme was renamed to Kilroy in September 1987.

The Time, The Place was a British audience participation talk show that was produced by a number of different ITV companies, and broadcast live on ITV from 1987 to 1998. TTTP was presented by Mike Scott from 1987 to 1993 and by John Stapleton from 1991 to 1998. Henry Kelly also presented the programme for a period before Stapleton took over full time.
