"Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night" is the title of a 1976 New York article by British rock journalist Nik Cohn, which formed the basis for the plot and inspired the characters for the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever.

Inter Insigniores is a document issued on 15 October 1976 by the Catholic Church's Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith with the approval of Pope Paul VI. It presents theological and historical arguments against the Catholic Church's ordination of women as priests and bishops. Its title is taken from the opening words of the document's original Latin text, which mean 'Among the noteworthy'.

United Nations General Assembly Resolution 31/136 was a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on 16 December 1976. The resolution adopted the period from 1976 to 1985 as the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace.
