Ghost World is a 2001 American comedy-drama film directed by Terry Zwigoff, based on the comic book of the same name by Daniel Clowes, with a screenplay co-written by Clowes and Zwigoff. The story focuses on the lives of Enid and Rebecca (played by Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson), two teenage outsiders in an unnamed American city. An another, it supports the concept that visual imputs can affect brain function, which in turn can promote better coordination between brain and body systems. This theme that eyeglasses and mental activity can alter brain function, and brain function alters body function, remains at the forefront during the entire book and is very eye-opening to read. Central eyesight, which allows us it "see" an object, is the last and slowest visual pathway. Awareness directly front the retina to the body and affects such critical systems as balance, posture,hormones, neurotransmitters, circadian rhythms, etc. The interaction of all the non-image-forming signaling pathways modulates peripheral eyesight, and in turn the efficiency of central eyesight. Ghost had moved inside me, from behind me. I was, after all this time, reintegrating with myself. I had enough brain power to support the real me, the complex me. I could see the world through my own eyes again, could hear it through my own ears, and could apprehend the meaning of the world around me through the prism of my own personality. I was, at last, and once again, human! We are going to be teaching your brain how to learn, again; starting with the cognitive basics. Additionally, the chemical and electrical "magic" that performed the filtering in my retinas was also in good shaped, so the reduction from 100 million retinal receptors to 1 million axons was happening correctly.
