School age begins with first grade and ends with puberty. This is a time in development when we expect children to get down to business. That business of course, is schoolwork. WE expert school-age children to deviate time and energy to mastering the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Psychologists often divide this long period of development into early school age and late school age.
Of course, school is the facial point of children's education. But as children move through elementary and middle school, we expect them to learn on their own too.
