Blade Runner 2: Sequel or Prequel?

Fans have been wondering ever since it was announced that a Blade Runner follow-up was in the works whether director Ridley Scott was going to make a prequel or a sequel to his 1982 sci-fi classic. Now Scott has suggested which one it might be.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog, Scott said Blade Runner 2 is "liable to be a sequel." He added, "I think I'm close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver ... we're quite a long way in, actually."

And if you're looking forward to seeing Harrison Ford and Sean Young back, well, stop. The film will happen, but "not with the past cast, of course." When pressed about whether Rick Deckard will be in it, Scott said, "No, not really."

Scott and Ford famously clashed making the film, and Ford doesn't hold the love for it that fans have so it shouldn't really come as a surprise that they wouldn't want to revisit the material together.
