He is known, too, for his energon theory and his commitment to protecting the environment.

He co-developed the Aqua-Lung, pioneered marine conservation and was a member of the Académie française.

She gained international recognition for penetrating deeper than previous explorers into cave systems across Australia and Florida, and as a public speaker and author on the subjects of diving and maritime archaeology. She died aged 29 while diving in a confined space.

He is also a published editor and author of non-fiction reference books; a magazine editor (Diving World, Atlantic Coastal Diver, Treasure, Treasure Diver, and Treasure Quest), and magazine publisher (ShipWrecks, Wreck Diver); and a published photographer. Spence was twelve years old when he found his first five shipwrecks.

He is best known for using film and television to show the United States public the beauties and dangers of Earth's underwater worlds.

    Monty Halls (born 5 November 1966, England) is a TV broadcaster, explorer and marine biologist. He is most well known for his BBC Great Escape series (Monty Halls' Great Escape, Monty Halls' Great Hebridean Escape and Monty Halls' Great Irish Escape) in which he lived and worked in remote parts of the UK and Ireland with his dog-and-best-friend Reuben. Halls' other TV programmes include Great Ocean Adventures, Scubazoo, Animal Planet and Perfect Weapon. He has also led a number of diving expeditions. He was an expedition leader for the marine conservation charity Coral Cay Conservation.

He was a pioneer in the use of color photography, both on land and underwater, and also made many discoveries in the world of science.

    Dr. Joseph Beverly MacInnis, CM (born in Barrie, Ontario, Canada on 2 March 1937) is a Canadian physician, author, poet, underwater diver and aquanaut. In 1974, MacInnis was the first scientist to dive beneath the North Pole. In 1976 he became a member of the Order of Canada.

    Paul Stuart Auerbach (born January 4, 1951) is an American physician and author in the discipline, wilderness medicine. He is a founder and past president of the Wilderness Medical Society. Auerbach was the editor for the Journal of Wilderness Medicine (currently Wilderness and Environmental Medicine) published by the Wilderness Medical Society from 1990 to 1995. Auerbach is the author of a number of articles and books on topics such as emergency medicine, hazardous marine animals, and scuba diving, including two books of underwater photography.

    Fiona Ayerst is a wildlife photographer based in South Africa notable for underwater photography. She has swum with many species of shark, photographed them, including the macropredator Tiger shark and the massive but tamer whale shark. Her images have won awards in numerous photo competitions. She writes for several magazines, and works as an editor for Beyond Blue magazine. She is a proponent of protecting sharks and ocean environments. Her images have appeared in magazines and newspapers worldwide, such as Time magazine, as well as on magazine covers and Coffee table books featuring wildlife photography. She won South Africa's 2003 Wildlife Photographer of the Year. She gave a TED talk in 2012 titled My journey into water. She is a director of Africa Media.

    Dermot FitzGerald (20 March 1935 – 5 February 2006) was a leading Irish businessman and philanthropist. A descendant of the aristocratic Earls of Desmond, FitzGerald was born in Limerick, Ireland to a southern Irish Protestant family. His father, Gerald FitzGerald, was a bank manager. He attended Wesley College, a prestigious Dublin school run by his maternal uncle Gerald Myles. Upon graduating he joined a host of notable alumni such as playwright George Bernard Shaw and Chaim Herzog, the sixth President of Israel.
